The Growth

Perxels is still very much growing. We haven’t attained much yet, but I am proud of how fast and well we have grown. Presently, we have about 180 community members and about 45 mentees. My greatest joy so far has been the quality of mentees we have been able to produce and I really hope that more people would see the value in the quality of design education we are upholding. We are still in the growing stage, however we are so “gingered” to work with many more students to improve the design industry and set a pace for design education in Nigeria.

AMA session with community

The AMA sessions.

AMA simply means “Ask Me Anything”. I’m sure some people don’t know this until reading this now. AMA sessions means a meeting where you can Ask Anything — get answers to any question that you need help with.

So why did we start AMA sessions for Perxels’ community?

We realized that a lot of young designers, especially entry-level designers had questions they’d have loved to ask senior designers but could not reach out to them for various reasons. So, we organized AMA sessions as means to link young/junior designers to those experienced in the field. The first AMA series was tagged #MYUIUXJOURNEY and the purpose of this series was to have design experts/professionals inspire junior designers through their stories on navigating the design industry.

AMA sessions are just our way of bridging the gap between the junior and senior designers to help them grow and thrive in the Industry.

Impacts of AMA session on community

The AMA sessions has been a source of Inspiration for the community and this has stirred up a spirit to keep pushing on, working harder and designing better. I have received a lot of amazing testimonials and a lot of people have gotten a new light of design. Many of them didn’t even know that UX goes beyond mobile apps, web apps and websites. The AMA has helped me explain things clearer to them as well as diversify the narrow mentality most of them had about UIUX.

Also, it has helped draw the community to the senior designers as well as helped some of the members to network with experts in the industry.

Finally, it has helped them realize that the journey to becoming an expert takes a lot of experiences; a lot of disappointments as well as learning. It has instilled the need to always create User-Centric designs. I have been so keen on the growth of designers and I have seen the impact of the AMA sessions on the mentees.

Testimonial from students

Thank you so much for walking through Perxels with us via the past few articles and I really hope that our journey as in one way or another, inspired you. We’d be ending this series in the next article and we hope to continue inspiring you in your design journey!
