The attitude towards design professionals in the past 10 years has been strongly changing, designers are perceived as much more than ´those guys doing nice things’ . I’ve noticed that more project stakeholders than ever before are aware of the impact that UX professionals bring to the products.
UX designers can be approached not only to predict and prevent potential usability issues with their target users, but also to delve deeper into the business side and solve problems from a strategic standpoint. With this in mind, I see some skills that UX professionals can develop this year in order to be successful in the field.
Concentrating on soft skills
Everyone expects the designer to have hard skills, such as user research and usability knowledge, but I cannot emphasize the importance of soft skills enough. When working on a project with multiple teams, the designer’s ability to communicate ideas to stakeholders, business people, and developers is critical.
Even though hard skills for designers are important, how well they communicate will determine half of their job success.
Ux Writing/ copy writing
UX writing is an important aspect of user experience because much of the success of the user experience is dependent on how the product communicates with the users. How the machine communicates with people is one of the fundamentals of human-computer interaction. Even when a product is complex by nature, such as complex admin dashboards for aviation, the ability to present the content in a way that the user understands is critical.
The UX copywriter differs from a general copywriter in that the UX copywriter considers user language more than brand language, but is capable of combining both.
Digging the technical side
UX Designers are typically not required to code by default, but it is expected that they understand how code works, the limitations of an existing challenge, and how the solution will be implemented. In general, because design requires effective teamwork and empathy from all perspectives, this comes in handy when speaking with software architects. Understanding the fundamentals of front end development is beneficial in the long run.
Good problem solving skills
UX Designers are the people who help a product achieve its goals while keeping the end user in mind, and they are the ones who connect the target audience with the business needs. One of the skills most employers look for is your ability to work well under time, financial, and technological constraints.
Sometimes you have to make important decisions with limited information and come up with quick solutions. People behind the project typically approach designers with specific goals or needs, and it is expected that they will solve current challenges through design.
Conclusion
Thank you for taking the time to read this! These are the abilities that I believe designers should have. The majority of it is concerned with people management, communication, and collaboration. What are your top skills that you plan to develop this year? What are your professional objectives?
